Position Title: Program Assistant
Classification Level: LE-06 step 1
Location: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Type of Advertisement: 1 year term(12 months)
Starting Salary: RD$819,882.00 annually (plus benefits)
Open to: Persons currently able to work legally in the Dominican Republic.

Candidates must demonstrate clearly how they meet the language, education and experience requirements listed below:
1- Language: Professional proficiency in the use of English/French (one of Canada’s official languages) and Spanish, written and spoken.
2- Experience: Experience utilizing Microsoft Office software including MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint; Minimum 1 year experience in providing secretarial/administrative support to a senior/executive manager or Minimum 1 year experience working for the following sectors: embassies, multinational corporations, governmental organizations, public relations, international relations, protocol and events; Experience in writing official correspondence.
3- Education: Completed post-secondary education and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and work experience related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position.
Knowledge and abilities:
Knowledge and basic understanding of the mandate of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada as well as Canadian embassies overseas;
Knowledge of Dominican Republic politics, institutions and culture;
Knowledge of inventory control procedures;
Knowledge of events management, including planning, protocol and implementation;
Ability in providing client services and dealing with the general public;
Ability to make written translations and verbal interpretations between English and Spanish;
Ability to follow-up on budget expenditures and to maintain well-organized electronic records and paper copy files;
Ability to initiate and maintain active scheduling;
Ability to work as a team member;
Ability to create and maintain a network of contacts;
Ability to plan and manage multiple projects, working well under pressure and meet deadlines;
Ability to plan and organize travel activities;
Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information.

Initiative and resourcefulness;
Flexibility and adaptability;
Strong organizational skills;
Logical thinking and problem solving capability.
Proficiency in the use of French (any of Canada’s Official Languages).
Ability and willingness to work overtime, often on short notice. Required to travel within area occasionally.
Conditions of Employment:
Ability to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada security clearance. Maintain the ability to work legally in the Dominican Republic.

The results of this competition may also be used to establish an eligibility list of staff for similar openings in the Embassy of Canada in the Dominican Republic which might arise in the 12 months following the completion of this competition.
